Falconry Day
Product code: FUNFX
This is a fascinating introduction to an ancient and intriguing pursuit and an unforgettable opportunity to handle some magnificent birds of prey. It is extraordinary watching the relationship between man and bird of prey - when we visited one supplier, his bird actually bowed to him! - the product of many years' training. During the course of the day, you will have the opportunity to hold the bird on your arm and in the afternoon you will go out hunting or flying the birds with the falconer - this is truly fascinating, watching the bird of prey hunting across the countryside.
You will be given an overview of the disciplines and history of falconry by one of the country's best falconers, followed by a brief introduction to the husbandry and welfare of birds and the equipment used in falconry. Our expert falconers will demonstrate the skills required to handle the birds themselves and discuss the importance of breeding and conservation to help species in the wild survive. In the afternoon you will head off into the countryside for a unique afternoon's sport. Programmes vary depending on the location.
